Plantation home with character close to Poipu needs a little better maintenance
Michael W. from Emerald Hills, CA does not recommend this property.
Stayed for 7 days in September, 2008
A beautiful and spacious plantation home with lots of character was a big change from our sterile cookie-cutter resort stay which preceded out arrival. With a swing set and play structure, our kids were occupied right away. Although surrounded by hedge and fence, the pool required constant monitoring lest one of our three kids under 4 enter it without escort since neither of the gates from the yard had a working latch. We brought it to the attention of the staff who actually arrived to do some cleaning after we did and they said they would alert the property manager right away and have it fixed, but the entire week passed with no further attention. A few other small deficiencies like broken screen hooks that allowed gaps through which mosquitoes could fly and the broken arm on the ice maker detracted from what otherwise was a very interesting and convenient location for a quiet and private retreat.

Magical Place
Sherrie A. from Arroyo Grande, CA recommends this property.
Stayed for 8 days in August, 2008
This home was a perfect metaphor for lush and laidback Kauai and the vintage Hawaii we always wanted to experience. Though an older home, it possessed an updated kitchen that was easy to cook in, especially for large gatherings. The bathrooms also had that wonderful blend of old-style Hawaii and new modern fixtures. (By the way, the view from the master bath was so incredible, I took a shower three times the first day!). Also, the property enjoys tropical breezes for most of the day which helps keep the temps down. The house stays cool with plenty of windows and fans.Loved the chickens and the neighborhood dog who would visit on occasion. If you're looking for a comfortable, scenic Hawaiian vacation with a vintage atmosphere, Akahai Ani is the perfect rental for you and your family. We will definitely be back.Sherrie Amido

Great Place! Akahai Ani
Dominic M. from Duarte, CA recommends this property.
Stayed for 5 days in June, 2008
Family members from other resorts visited and had many good things to say. What would have been nice was a guide book for the place. In it a note about the mango tree during certain parts of the year. Also, a schedule when the grounds keeper or pool guy stops may be good.

A perfect week in a home with everything you could want. All the modern conveniences in a really cool vintage plantation estate. It was truly gorgeous, and we hope to return.

Private paradise

If you are not interested in staying at a large hotel or would like to coordinate a vacation with family or good friends, Akahai Ani is the place.

After a day of exploring Kaui, you can unwind around the private pool for cocktails or an evening swim. Have fun planning a couple of meals and Bar-B-Que on the back patio.

Honeymoon in Kauai
Tyler L. from Sherman Oaks, CA recommends this property.
Stayed for 14 days in June, 2007
My wife and I couldn't have imagined a better honeymoon. We have been dying to come back since the day we left. In fact, I'm having a hard time writing about this and not looking into booking it again. Loved it, is the general point I'm trying to make. Perfect getaway.

Paradise!
Allison L. from Granite Bay, CA recommends this property.
Stayed for 6 days in April, 2007
This was one of our best, most memorable vacations ever! Paradise! We stayed in April 2007. Our kids were 2,5 and 7 at the time. The pool was cold but the kids didn't mind and swam daily. The location is excellent--a short car ride into town and the beach. The grounds were perfect for exploring (just be sure to bring bug spray...lots of mosquitoes!). We enjoyed the fruit trees (although most fruit was not ripe yet that time of year), the fire pit for roasting marshmallows, the horses across the street, the sounds of roosters in the morning. We were there over Easter and used the back yard for an Easter egg hunt. We stopped by Costco on the way to the house from the airport and stocked up on food. The house was well stocked and if something was needed, the staff responded quickly. All in all, a lovely vacation. Our kids still talk about it often.
