Adorable little 3-story house built at the summit of an old, picturesque pedestrian village (Poggio) which is perched on mountain overlooking the ocean.
LOCATION: Poggio is a 1-hour drive from the port town, Porto Ferraio, where you arrive on ELBA ISLAND (off the coast of Tuscany). The village is completely pedestrian, with cobble-stone streets right out of bygone age. Still very preserved from tourism. Most of the owners are Italians who have inherited from several generations. The view from the village square and from the house’s balcony is stunning. The town has a café and several good restaurants. For shopping, either the next town (5 min drive) or Marciana (15 min). Beaches everywhere, great bike rides, excellent restaurants all over the island. The port for Elba, Piombino, is accessible by (rental) car from Pisa (30 min drive) , Florence, or Rome airports (2 hours).
HOUSE: Simply but tastefully decorated, the house was built after the war by a man fascinated by and knowledgeable in architecture and whose best friend was Lecorbusier.
Main floor: living/dining room with balcony, and fully-equipped kitchen.
Downstairs: two separate bedrooms (double beds) and bathroom with shower and bath. (this floor is not underground)
Upstairs (third floor): Main bedroom with huge balcony, bathroom.
