The Brown House is located on the water in the heart of Stonington Village, on the southern tip of Deer Isle, overlooking Stonington Harbor. Originally, The Brown House was a provisioning store for boats coming in and out of the harbor before my grandfather bought it in the late 60's and turned it into this special getaway. Your visit here will surely be a "down east" experience. Stonington is a true working fishing village where visitors can enjoy the sights and sounds of the lobster and fishing boats bringing in their daily catch. Gaze out at Maine's own sailing schooners as they gracefully move through the harbor and anchor for the night. Walk along the waterfront and watch the harbor bustle along or enjoy day trips to the various islands. The mail boat cruises through the tiny islands of Merchant's Row and takes passengers to the village dock at Isle au Haut. During summer months it also stops at Duck Harbor at the Acadia National Park. This park covers more than half of Isle au Haut and offers both easy and challenging walking trails, rugged beaches and gorgeous ocean views. You can launch your own kayak or boat right from The Brown House and explore the surrounding islands on your own. Also enjoy scenic hiking trails, bicycling, and deep-sea fishing. At the end of the day, relax on the deck of The Brown House and watch the harbor settle into evening. We are within walking distance of restaurants, gift shops, art galleries, the Isle au Haut mail boat, and the Stonington Opera House. We are also within a short drive to the mainland, other nearby villages and towns that offer classical and folk music concerts, summer theater and more historical sites.
